When will we stop running down Wales in our bid to ruin the world by building new roads to everywhere?
We are seeing the beginning of a campaign to build a new dual carriageway to Cardiff Airport.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister and Transport Minister, has down-graded the scheme for a new airport road – it is 19th on his new roads list, near the bottom.
At which point the Federation of Small Businesses jumps up and yells, “If you’re in the centre of Cardiff, it can take as long to get to Cardiff Airport as to Bristol Airport.”
Of course, if it’s in England, it must be better…
Ever got lost circumnavigating southern Bristol; got tired getting around the innumerable junctions; watched the time creeping past as the miles add up.
For the sake of the FSB and the pro-English gang, Bristol must be one of the poorest-sited airports in England. And one day I was there, it was 9am and the morning papers had still to arrive. Talk about being lost in the sticks.
Better to put up with a few roundabouts on a trip of only 10 miles – as compared with, could it be, 45? Or even go by the hourly train. Of course, there’s a train to Bristol airport – it’s known as a shuttle bus all the way from Temple Meads. And Bristol’s supposed to be better.
In one way, of course, it is. More flights. But that’s because some people regard it is an outer-London airport – which it is if you live to the south-west of London. Geography, unfortunately, ensures that Cardiff finds it much harded to grab that honour.

Merry Christmas to all… and to all a good night.
