Since this is the silly season or ‘cucumber time’ (Sauregurkenzeit), every blog seems to be running a competition at the moment, so we are going to jump on this bandwagon too. We have made a biased eclectic (knew I’d get that word in sometime) choice from the Welsh political blogosphere for you to select 2 which you actually read and favour. Vote in the poll in the right column.

There are no prizes although some jokers have already suggested that the presenter of this prestigious award should be Rhodri Glyn and the prize should be a framed cigar butt from the floor of the Eli Jenkins pub, or a bronze cucumber for placing in an appropriate spot – but this would not be in the best possible taste.

Cambria has been sent a press release by the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) quantifying the amount of booze our alcoholic elected masters in Westminster get through at our expense. Apparently the consumption is about the annual turnover of 35 pubs (and London pubs at that) and nearly £9000 per MP.

It would be interesting to know what the bar bill of the politicians that frequent the Eli Jenkins pub near the Senedd where the AMs drown their sorrows or forget to stub out their cigars.

Now many of us like a drink or two and some of us may even pay for a round but this is simply taking the piss.

No smoke without cigarRhodri Glyn Thomas AM obviously couldn’t quit the habit. What that habit really is… one can only guess. However, it seems a pity to be punished for what, ostensibly, are relatively minor human failings and vanities like  not wearing your spectacles and needing a cigarette/cigar when there are other politicians whose snouts are so deep in the trough that they seem to have acquired immunity from any shit that is thrown at them.

It will be interesting to read what his political legacy, and achievements in power, if anything, has been although Alwyn ap Huw doesn’t seem to think there is much.

For the curious, the smoking incident was at the Eli Jenkins pub, which is well known to journalists, politicians and staff at the nearby Senedd building.
