Lib Dems get shot up over St Athan military base

LIB DEM financial spokesman Vince Cable is down in Newport later this week, and the press were invited yesterday to meet him in the town. On being asked whether the UK party’s biggest financial noise will also be travelling to St Athan, Kirsty Williams, the party’s Welsh leader pointedly refused to answer.

IT CAN be advisable not to cross Kirsty Williams, the Lib Dems’ leader. She can be quite sharp in her corrections. It would have been nice as a reporter to be around when she confronted Nick Clegg, her UK party leader and Vince Cable, the treasury spokesman, over the latter’s proposal to ditch the massive military facility planned for St Athan.

Murder Academy heading for Death Row

News that plans for the Murder Academy at St Athan are in serious jeopardy will lift the hearts of Welsh patriots. The Sunday Times reports that the whole project is threatened as the contractor Metrix, which is lead by the ‘defence group’ Qinetiq, is struggling to get the £1.3 billion from the banks needed to keep the project afloat.
